The CADCON Story

Established from humble beginnings in 1987 on a plot outside Pretoria, CADCON (Pty) Ltd is a privately-owned, reputable steel construction and engineering company which specializes in structural steelwork solutions in all sectors of the construction and engineering industries.
With an impressive track record spanning over 30 years, CADCON has steadily grown their steel and engineering business through establishing and maintaining good business relationships. Their commitment to excellence and professionalism has secured ongoing work in the South African construction industry, as well as export projects to neighbouring African countries, Europe and Mauritius.
CADCON has 15 100m2 of undercover workshop facilities serviced by 25 No overhead cranes and deliver excellent workmanship on all structural and platework products through Quality Standards maintained through ISO 9001:2008 accreditation and ISO 3834 welding standards.
Final finish of steelwork is done at their own blasting and painting facility covering in excess of 10 000m2.
In 2011, in an effort to advance economic transformation, CADCON concluded an empowerment deal involving 46% of its shareholding. This further re-inforced our commitment towards BEE empowerment milestones.
CADCON empower their workforce with expertise, skills and leadership through management leading by example, providing a safe working environment and good working relationships. CADCON has also managed to contain company overheads for client cost advantages. Our dedicated office staff and satisfied labour workforce are always willing to put in the extra hours when needed to expedite projects for clients.
CADCON has earned a reputation for prizing respect and loyalty in the construction industry by delivering cost-effective solutions, on-time and going the extra mile for contractors, engineers and clients in order to deliver a quality product. Our Timeline
1987
Established
Established CADCOR as Close Corporation – founded by mechanical engineering student Gerhard Meiring on a plot in a garage outside Pretoria (Lynnwood).
1989
Initial Growth
Barry Barnard, a former Iscor employee, at the time studying mechanical engineering with Gerhard Meiring afterhours, joined CADCOR. Performing small steelworks and sundry metalworks, their business moved into a larger rental premises in Waltloo, Pretoria (1 000m2 workshop). Turnover of R1m – R2m per annum.
1995
Further Growth
Purchased industrial property in Lyttelton Centurion, well located between Pretoria and Johannesburg. Construct 1st workshop and office facility, current Workshop A (2 100m2 with 4 overhead cranes). Turnover of R2m – R3m per annum.
1996
First Major Project
Richard Butler, working as a student QS at Schoombie Hartmann meets Gerhard Meiring on CADCOR 1st major project, BMW Paintshop build in Rosslyn.
1997
Team changes
Richard Butler (passionate about steelwork, working afterhours making steel furniture from his parents garage) joined CADCOR to run the tender and costing department looking to expand. Gerhard Meiring, founding member, left CADCOR after deciding to emigrate to Australia.
1998
Mercedes East London
After BMW Paintshop experience, awarded
700 ton Mercedes Benz Paintshop in East
London, paving the way for CADCOR and
building on this a formidable CV. Turnover in
2 years up to R15m.
1999
Our 3rd Partner
Johan Jonker, former Head Structural Engineer
of DLV Engineers, left the consulting engineering
sector to add his experience by joining as the
3rd partner of CADCOR.
2000
PTY LTD Registration
Name change initiated through process of
changing from Close Corporation to Pty (Ltd).
CADCOR cc. becomes CADCON (Pty) Ltd.
2000-2002
Expansion
Increased Lyttelton Shop A workshop capacity
by renting additional Presco Iscor Facility
Pretoria West as 2nd workshop Facility.
2006-2008
And Expanding
Expanded into 3rd workshop facility. Workshop C when Medupi ACC steelwork in JV with A. Leita and Boksan awarded – 26 000 tons in JV (Workshop C 5 200m2 with 10 overhead cranes).
2008
Automation
Implemented workshop and site management system – FABTROL. Invested in workshop automation through FICEP CNC plate cutting (plasma and gas up to 100mm thick), FICEP CNC 3-axis Beamline, FICEP CNC angleline, FICEP CNC 22m in-line cutting facility.
2009-2010
And Expanding
Expanded into 4th workshop facility, Workshop D when Medupi Ducting steelwork awarded (Workshop D 4 200m2 with 6 overhead cranes).
2011
Accreditation and BEE
ISO 9001-2008 Accredited and ISO 3834 Welding. CADCON entered into a 46% BEE empowerment deal through Investec.
2015
Some Goodbyes
Johan Jonker, design engineer retired as shareholder/Director.
2017-2018
30 Year Anniversary
CADCON management consolidate with 60% shareholding and 40% empowerment shareholding in CADCON. 30 Year Anniversary.
